Do you have an intelligent data storage management solution that can easily grow with your increasing data storage needs? Today’s businesses need to be able to react quickly, without having to worry if their storage solution will scale up to meet increased data storage requirements or be incompatible with a particular application or platform.
Backup and Recovery
IBM Tivoli® Storage Manager is a family of products that helps businesses manage and control the “information explosion” by delivering a single point of control and administration for storage management needs. This advanced, highly scalable product helps increase the efficiency of your IT operations and cut costs related to storage management by providing a wide range of data protection, recovery management, movement, retention, reporting and monitoring capabilities using policy-based automation.
The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager’s backup and recovery offering is a centralized, comprehensive solution that employs smart data movement and smart data store technology to makes backups and restores as fast, flexible and low-impact as possible. The IBM Tivoli suite of storage products supports more than a dozen OS platforms, a variety of network connectors and more than 500 storage devices.
Business needs can be met using the various types of backups and recovery strategies that Tivoli Storage Manager offers. These range from progressive incremental backup of files, sub-file backup, volume level backup, backup sets, open file backups, on-line backup of databases and applications, to bare machine recovery backups.
TSM Unified Recovery Bundle
“Capacity licensing, expanded functionality, simplified compliance.”
This new TSM licensing model allows customers to license by the amount of data managed by the TSM Primary Storage Pools and FastBack Repositories. IBM introduced this model to address pricing challenges with Intel servers and provide our customers with a cost-effective, flexible solution while also allowing our clients take advantage of more of the TSM Product family.
It’s a bundled solution of ten products — TSM Extended Edition, TSM for Virtual Environments, TSM for Databases, TSM for Mail, TSM for SAN, TSM for ERP, TSM for Space Management, TSM FastBack, TSM FastBack for Exchange, and TSM FastBack for BMR. You have access to all ten products and can deploy as many in your environment as desired.
We measure the amount of data managed by the TSM Primary Storage Pools and FastBack Repositories. Running of a simple macro command on your TSM Primary Servers provides you with this data. It’s easy to ensure licensing compliancy and, running the command monthly, provides you with the ability to predict future needs. Important to note, by taking advantage of the inherent TSM V6 Data Deduplication functionality, you can reduce your licensing requirements and regain capacity.
We protect your investment in TSM PVU Model through a custom conversion by which we grandfather the data managed by the TSM Primary Storage Pool and preserve the TSM PVU S&S, increasing annual as normal business practice. The grandfathered capacity also determines the starting tier for additional capacity. In this example, the TSM Primary Storage Pool was managing 400TBs, which was grandfathered into the TSM Capacity Model. The starting tier for additional capacity is Tier 3 (251 – 500 TBs).
TSM SUR is a cost effective model to taking advantage of the TSM Family. Under the PVU Model, TSM Database, TSM Mail, TSM SAN, TSM ERP are twice the cost of TSM EE. Under the capacity model, these products create a nominal increase in capacity consumption compared to TSM EE capacity consumption.
